Sex and Relationship Education

Introduction

The Shepherd School has established a national and international reputation for its work in Sex and Relationship Education. For some 20 years this has been Sex Education Monitory Group which has supported staff and families in the development of sex on appropriate sex education curriculum accompanying resources. It runs regular workshops for parents and has produced useful booklets for parents and students.

The school has been a key player the new edition of ‘Living Your Life’, published by brook in November 2003. This is a comprehensive curriculum of SRE designed for those working with young people and adults with learning difficulties. Supported by the Teenage Pregnancy Unit this resource has been well received. Future publications from the school, include ‘Bodyworks’ aimed at those pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties, and a new pack on citizenship. For further details on these, please contact Angela Mallet at shepherd school or Sarah Bustard at sarah.bustard@nottinghamcity-pct.nhs.uk.
